We are a participant-led program that encourages our scouts to develop life, leadership, and team building skills, make new friends, connect with nature, give back to their community, and have a chance to participate in a group setting that encourages personal and professional development, all while upholding our moral compass.
Moral Compass
"As a Navigator I promise to do my best to create a world free of prejudice and ignorance.
To treat people of every race, creed, lifestyle and ability with dignity and respect.
To strengthen my body and improve my mind to reach my full potential.
To protect our planet and preserve our freedom.”
The 2016-2017 year began in September with a “Welcome to Chapter 58 Meet and Greet” and will end on June 21 as we say our farewells and acquire our hard earned badges for the year. We have spent our year learning the fundamentals of first aid, gardening, camping, hiking, writing letters, and learning to tie knots. Below are just a few of our favorite adventures.
First though, we would like to extend a special THANK YOU to our wonderful hosts, Pam Luke, Carey Hall-Warner, the amazing Social Justice Team, & the wonderful UUFP congregation. We wouldn’t be who we are without your love and support; Thank you!

Building Practice
Saturday, March 4, 2017, Chapter 58 Navigators and a few members from the UUFP congregation came together to prepare for our big building day in May. Our young Navigators practiced safe hammer, drill, and screw skills, and meticulously practiced their saw skills with the support of our wonderful adult volunteers and a miter block.
In between taking turns with the tools, we all came together to clean up the parking lot and help Joanne clean out the RE storage shed. A couch, a full garbage can, a full recycle bin, a gigantic pile of gumballs from the Sweetgum tree, and a trunk full of items for the local
re-sale store came out victorious in our adventures. Thank you to Joanne Dingus, Allison Black, Robert Drees, Kirk Davis, and Pam Luke for your extensive knowledge and support.

May 6-7, 2017 Adventures
Camp In/Out
Friday, May 5, through Saturday, May 6, we gathered in the UUFP sanctuary building to begin our camping adventure. After playing some getting-to-know-you games and finishing our picnic dinners, we worked together to pitch a large tent in the backyard. Scouts began a game of flashlight tag in one end of the yard while one of the adult leaders got the campfire going in the fire circle. By dark, we circled up for a lesson on fire safety so that we could start roasting marshmallows and making s’mores! Once the fire was extinguished and sticky fingers were washed, the leaders received alerts of thunderstorms in the overnight forecast. In true scout fashion, we all adjusted our plans, pitched a smaller tent next to the kitchen coffee station, and got our sillies out before lights out!
An early but gentle morning began with hot chocolate before scouts made their own oatmeal-and-fruit breakfasts. Once bellies were full, teeth were brushed, and scouts were dressed, we cleared out our personal belongings and cleaned up the building. By 9:30 AM, we moved out to the backyard for some games and make-believe before our carpentry project.
Thank you to all of the parents for donating s’mores ingredients, sharing camping gear, and most of all, helping your scouts participate in ways that were meaningful for them. We would also like to thank the UUFP for generously allowing us to use the facilities for our first overnight. Finally, a big “thank you” to all of the scouts who participated, either overnight or in smaller segments: each one of you displayed our Navigators values, and your leaders are proud!

RE Shelf Building Day
On Saturday, May 6, 2017 Chapter 58 Navigators and a few members from the UUFP congregation came together to build shelves for the RE chabin. The Pierce family donated the materials and took the time to make things as easy as possible, while still being challenging for our youngest builders. The kids got the chance to saw, hammer, use a power drill, and participate in the process as much or as little as they wished. We also set up the volleyball net with Joanne in preparation for summer! We can’t wait to see what fun adventures we can get into this summer with the UUFP! Thank you Joanne Dingus, Kirk Davis, and Parker Stokes for your extensive knowledge and support.
